Find your house's orientation with your phone's compass

House orientation & compass opens as a live compass: the dial turns with your phone and instantly reads the facing and sitting directions on the 24 mountains. You can also place the compass over a photo of the house or a drawing. Data stays only in the open tab.

Steps

  1. Stand in the right spotStand at the main door with your back to the house, hold the phone flat, with its top pointing straight out. Stay away from steel columns, cars and roller doors. If you're standing outside looking at the house, tick “I'm standing outside, looking at the house”.
  2. Measure and lock the directionPress “Start measuring”. The compass dial turns with the phone; the red line points to FACING, the other end is SITTING. Wait for the “Stable” label, then press “Lock direction”. No sensor? Press “Enter bearing”.
  3. Read the resultBelow the compass you'll see the mountain names for Facing and Sitting, the bearing and how far it is from the center of the mountain. If the direction is right on the boundary of two mountains, you'll get a void-line warning and should measure again.
  4. Readings by age (optional)Turn on “Readings by the homeowner's age” and enter the solar date of birth or lunar year of birth and sex. The compass shows that person's ring of favorable / unfavorable stars, with a verdict for the locked direction.
  5. Save the resultUnder “Save results”, choose image or PDF and press save. To put the compass on a photo of the house or a drawing, press “Place on a house photo / drawing”.

Tips

  • Measure two or three times at different spots and compare.
  • “Professional” mode can measure several spots (main door, stove, altar…), show sunlight and the sun's path, and technical data.
  • On iPhone, you're asked for sensor permission after pressing “Start measuring”: choose Allow.

Good to know

  • Computers and many browsers have no compass sensor; in that case press “Enter bearing”.
  • The compass only works when the page is opened over HTTPS.
  • The age-based part counts years from Tết (lunar new year) and is a reference according to folk feng shui (Eight Mansions), not a technical conclusion.
  • Results aren't saved automatically: if you close the tab without saving, they're gone.
